This is our 2nd year attending the Poulsbo Winter Rendezvous. It’s a really fun event that is sponsored by The One Eighty Foundation and many local businesses such as Georgetown Brewery, Elliott Bay Maria and Dock Street Marina to mention a few. This year’s theme was Seks – Year of the Viking. Events range from a glogg fest to a poker run, Viking Olympics, traditional Viking bonfire, Viking parade down Main Street and Fabulous Paella dinner and dancing with a live band.

Of course it’s a party and we did a fair bit of that over the course of the weekend with our G-Dock boating buddies despite the forecast of impending snow.

If you have never visited Poulsbo you are missing out. It’s a charming town with lots of shops, restaurants, book stores, a quilting store, marine store, walking paths and history. One of our favorite places to go is Sluys Bakery for the delicious pastries and fresh baked goods. This year we went to the Slippery Pig Restaurant for lunch and had a really good Cuban and Pastrami sandwiches, I would highly recommend both!

Although it was really cold, everyone initially gathered at the Loft Restaurant for spirits and good company. Little did we all know that this would be the year of SNOWMEGGEDON! While there wasn’t much snow sticking on Friday evening we awoke Saturday to a plethora of snow everywhere. It was fun to watch everyone shoveling and clearing their vessels of the freezing white stuff. Our dogs seemed overjoyed although a little unsure of where to actually do their business and we ended up shoveling our Portuguese bridge so the could use their potty patch.

After trudging through snow all day Saturday we gathered on the Pacific Valkyrie before dinner to taste T2’s authentic glogg, not to be mistaken for spiced wine! Apparently the key is to be careful of the fruit and eat the apricots in moderation! Then it was off to the Son’s of Norway hall for paella, more spirits and some dancing.
